I was probably told that there were Hen Harriers in the area but, being an aging person, probably forgot, until my first couple of glimpses this year, 2024.
I may well have seen the female before without realising!
I'm pretty sure I saw the male first, he's pretty unmistakable but, at long distance. I remember seeing a large-ish 'white' bird in the distance but no binoculars or camera to hand, I had no idea what it was!
Not very long ago, I glance out the back window and there he was, cruising low over the back field, no camera again, of course but no doubt this time, the colouring was obvious as he disappeared to the West. One day!
Not so long ago, February 8th, I spotted the female in the same area but moving away, I did get a few shots though.
Terrible photos but I now live in hope of something better in the near future.
She caught me out not long after as I opened the car door and looked towards the field, she cruised by quite close ....... no camera, AGAIN!
