Snow always brings the birds flocking to the feeders, the weather's not been that great for them anyway so far but I love when the Brambling show up and there were five at one point.
They really are gorgeous wee birds and I've seen brighter colours today, time of year maybe?
Other birds are available :)
The GSW have been to and fro all morning.
There's a bit of agro at the moment, there are at least two males coming in, I think it's the adults from last year and maybe one of their young males?
I tend to overlook the Chaffinches, there are SO many of them here but, they are gorgeous wee birds too.
The House Sparrows don't appear here too often so it was good to see them come out to grab snacks.
They used to be the only Sparrows we saw until we moved here.
You can see the effects of taking photos into a snowy sky in that shot above!
I quite often look out the window and they're staring in at me like.... "Where's the grub then"?
I know, there are a lot of Brambling shots today, well, they're not common garden visitors so it's a real pleasure to see them. Bear in mind, there were five Brambling at any one time among around thirty Chaffinch! (or more)
I mentioned two male GSW? One allows the other, younger one?, to hang around but not feed or get too close.
The Chaffinches arrive in droves and often sit there in the tree, it feels like they're staring in, willing me to bring out more food! :)
There are a LOT of Corvids around us, Crows, Rooks, Jackdaws are common sights around the garden but the Jays I only ever see in the nearby woods and I've only seen one Magpie here on two occasions. There are Ravens around as well but I don't think I've seen any this close.
There are a couple of Jackdaws that drop by quite regularly and they're VERY wary, they see me, they're gone.
I find them fascinating, very clever birds and this eyes! very piercing stare. But, they can also be really funny ....
I absolutely love that second shot, peeping round the tree trunk to check me out! They're difficult to Geta good shot of once they're down on the ground, they never stop moving and move their heads quickly.
The activity out there when there are a lot of hungry birds, is constant and I sit here editing g etc. but constantly checking what's going on and this shot just grabbed me. The Tree Sparrow jumped onto the suet ball when the GSW was already there, look at the look on the GSW face! What the ......?
love the Tree Sparrows, having gone from possibly seeing one once in N. Yorkshire to seeing them every day is wonderful.
There was a little group of them almost lined up on these branches but I was too slow to get the shot :(
another interaction I noticed and photographed was a GSW female on one feeder and a Starling, obviously getting too close on another. The Starlings can be real bullies when they're hungry.
When I'm sitting here I'm always on the lookout for any action or interaction. You may notice there are no photos of any of the Tits, they were there but it was SO busy ....
OK, this page has become quite long so I'm going to start Pt. 2 here
