What can I say about Jackdaws? Clever. Funny. Quick learning.
I love the Corvids; we have Carrion Crows, Rooks, Jackdaws and Jays with the odd Raven thrown in.
There's a stand of trees within line of sight and many Jackdaws seem to live and nest there, which means they can see our garden and when I go out with food and that's how i get to watch and enjoy them pretty close up.
There's an old Gorse root or branch that I move around outside my window, the birds step up onto it and it takes them clear of the grass for my shots.
I find them really quite expressive, the looks they often appear to have can be interpreted into good image captions.
That one was looking down on a Grey Partridge like it didn't really know what it was.
In the rain, they can look fantastic, fed up and so photogenic. I've also taken to photographing them in black and white, I think their expressions and feathering look great.
I mentioned how clever they can be, I watch them as they watch another bird on feeders hanging in the tree and they wait for morsels to drop.
Just look at those head angles, they make them look expressive! They can look really grumpy.
But, I have to say, my favourites are in the rain, the poor souls!
It is now mid June 2026 and I am hoping and waiting for the young ones to turn up but I'm going to save the young birds for another time.
