The Coal Tit has to be one of my favourite wee birds, non-stop, inquisitive and brave, they're often first to check out something new and a couple now drop onto my hand to pick up food.
The males and females look the same but, not to another Coal Tit I guess? They quite often chase each other around with amazing flying skills and very fast with it. We see a lot of them all year around and like so many they almost disappear during nesting season.
As you can see, I can get quite close to them, I do have a long zoom lens but still need to be close to get shots like that.
They are probably the most common and usually the first bird at the feeding post.
I've been able to get a lot of really nice shots of them at the feeding post
You can see their head markings in that shot. They are one of our smaller Tits but pretty feisty.
There are other members of the Tit family that look very similar to the Coal Tit, the Marsh and Willow Tits.
