Did you know that there is more than one type of ‘seagull’? In fact, there are around 50 species worldwide and six types which commonly breed in the UK!
Now, 'gulls are, or should be seabirds but, they have learned that we're not the best at tidying our messes after us or at keeping our spaces clean and so, we now see them in the cities, McDonalds car parks and so on, not usually Black-headed gulls though. For the most part they pass over the patch but during ploughing season they turn up on the fields in their scores.
That was in May of this year and some field was going on but they pass overhead regularly. I watched this one fly towards me and almost overhead but, saw it pause mid-flight for some reason. If you look closely at the shot above, there's a bug of some kind right in front of it ...
Snapped up and swallowed!
Black-headed Gulls aren't always black headed, like many gulls they go through changes.
Those shots were taken in S. Wales but show the Winter colours.
